{"id":15378,"date":"2012-11-21T15:20:00","date_gmt":"2012-11-21T20:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hame.ink\/hameblog\/2012\/11\/21\/conferred-courage\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T07:50:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T10:50:14","slug":"conferred-courage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hame.ink\/blether\/2012\/11\/21\/conferred-courage\/","title":{"rendered":"Conferred courage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I once read that doing &#8220;extreme&#8221; sports doesn&#8217;t actually confer any qualities to other parts of our lives (e.g. bungee-jumping won&#8217;t make you feel more confident on dates).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>But, you know, driving is making me believe that&#8217;s not true: Learning to do this dreaded thing&#8221;&#8221;even starting to have <em>fun<\/em> at it&#8221;&#8221;is a real confidence-booster. What else might I be able to do? I&#8217;ll be driving that car around like I&#8217;ve got a bloody dragon&#8217;s heid in the boot!<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>I still have a lot to learn, but that nightmare of suddenly appearing in the driver&#8217;s seat of a car on the motorway&#8230; it doesn&#8217;t apply anymore (even though I haven&#8217;t dealt with those lessons yet).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the oracle at Delphi was wrong.
