{"id":15231,"date":"2015-08-24T11:30:00","date_gmt":"2015-08-24T15:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hame.ink\/hameblog\/2015\/08\/24\/toronto-comix\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T07:50:35","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T10:50:35","slug":"toronto-comix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hame.ink\/blether\/2015\/08\/24\/toronto-comix\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto Comix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, I went to the initial meeting for the third anthology of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tocomix.com\/\">Toronto Comix<\/a>, where writers pitched three of their story ideas and everyone voted on which one they liked\u00a0best.\u00a0I got to see how this process works, or\u00a0at least their version of it.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>I had to shove down a tsunami of shyness to go into the back room of the coffeeshop and involve myself in the meeting, but I\u2019m so glad I did. It\u2019s really important to me to surround myself here with people for whom creating comics is just a normal, natural thing, who have processes for doing it. And this was definitely that!<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>At the end, the lead editor, with\u00a0whom I\u2019d connected with on Twitter, told me he\u00a0liked my work and asked if I\u2019d like to be involved as a writer or an illustrator. EEK! My intention in going to the meeting was really just to observe and learn, but I found myself saying \u201cIf my style fits any of the stories, I\u2019d like to illustrate!\u201d As I thought about it afterwards, I felt like this was exactly why I\u2019m here and what I should be doing.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>As I reviewed my A3 sheet of 2015 goals this morning, I discovered that this meeting ticked one of them: \u201cParticipate in an event for cartoonists\u201d.
