{"id":15074,"date":"2017-03-14T14:16:00","date_gmt":"2017-03-14T18:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hame.ink\/hameblog\/2017\/03\/14\/modibots\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T07:50:34","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T10:50:34","slug":"modibots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hame.ink\/blether\/2017\/03\/14\/modibots\/","title":{"rendered":"Modibots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am unduly excited about receiving a package in the mail today.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>About a week ago, it struck me that trying to manipulate figures in 3D software &#8212; even those provided in my beloved <a href=\"http:\/\/my.smithmicro.com\/manga-studio-5.html\">Clip Studio Paint<\/a> &#8212; is just too tedious. And as visual references, their proportions are always wrong and they&#8217;re too stiff-looking.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>So I searched around for a portable artist&#8217;s model &#8212; but not those awful wooden things, which don&#8217;t look like anything and are horrible to pose.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Enter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.modibot.com\/\">Modibots<\/a>: Wee action figures created by a brilliant member of the 3D-printing community.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Now, if I were a parent, I&#8217;d be over the moon about being able to give my kids something to play with that&#8217;s <em>blank<\/em>, that doesn&#8217;t come with a prescripted story to confine their imagination.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>As it is, the pictures made these little figures &#8212; for all their blankness &#8212; feel full of motion, character, and charm.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>I placed my order, and today got a wee kit full of assemble-it-yourself parts. Just playing with them for a few minutes yielded all kinds of lively poses. These <em>feel<\/em> like the characters I draw, so I think this is going to be a huge help.
